Virals is the first novel in a young adult series written by forensic anthropologist and crime writer Kathy Reichs together with her son Brendan Reichs. It features Tory Brennan, great-niece of Temperance Brennan, and is the first of Reichs's novels written specifically for a young adult audience.

The story begins when Tory and her friends Hiram (Hi), Ben and Shelton find a rusted dog tag from the Vietnam War era on Loggerhead Island. Trying to identify its owner leads them to an unsolved murder and to infection by an experimental virus that gives them special powers, which they call "flaring": super strength, speed and heightened senses. While investigating, they discover a skeleton that proves to belong to the daughter of the tag's owner, and a series of events forces them to solve the case on their own.
