Failed States: The Abuse of Power and the Assault on Democracy is a book by Noam Chomsky, first published in 2006. In it, Chomsky argues that the United States is becoming a "failed state" and therefore a danger both to its own people and to the world.

The first chapter, titled "Stark, Dreadful, Inescapable" in allusion to the famous Russell–Einstein Manifesto, argues that US foreign and military policies after the Cold War greatly increased the danger of nuclear war. Chomsky then recounts various facts about the Iraq War and contends that the United States specifically sought regime change, rather than the stated destruction of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program.

The book was republished by Haymarket Books in January 2024.
